Now that our country is again faced with another round of calamities and tragedies brought about by the recent weather condition and the typhoon, the need for volunteers to help out those who are in need have sky-rocketed. People are needed to rescue families trapped inside their homes after the flood water suddenly rises, professional volunteers are needed to extend medical assistance to families in evacuation centers everywhere. Again, more people are needed to repack relief goods, sort them and distribute them to those who are in need. Some more kind souls are also needed to raise awareness on the current situation and encourage people to help in whatever way they can.
We do not need another typhoon to become volunteers. You can simply give a few hours of your time by signing up to be an aide in your parish, you may be assigned medial tasks like running computer cleaner programs in your church’s parish office, or teaching little children how to write or read at the local day care. These acts of volunteerism may not be as grand as the others, but yield the same satisfaction knowing that you were able to apportion your time to those who are in need.

They may not fancy designer clothes or expensive bags as they are committed to enriching the spirit instead of pampering the physical one, but I am sure you can find the best and thoughtful gift to give your faithful friend or family members. You might want to skip the material stuff altogether, although I am sure they can also appreciate a cute and quirky item or two.
Here are a few things you might want to give your devout sister or faithful friend:
- A Devotional Book which I am sure will be greatly appreciated. It is also something that the recipient will be using over and over so not only will you be giving him something that he actually likes but you are also giving him something of use to him.
- A concert ticket to his favorite praise band will prove to be quite a great gift idea, too. I am sure you friend or your sister will enjoy listening to his favorite Christian band play live using tascam mixers at guitar center much more that she enjoys the cd’s.
- A trip to the zoo will always score points in anyone’s books. Communing with nature, as well as a host of different animal species is a very inspiring and worthwhile experience.

We are, after all, created by the Lord to look after the rest of His creation that is why it is quite fitting to surmise that caring for our environment is also a clear indication of our faith. In doing so, we are not only giving our Mother Earth a break from all the abuse and the destruction, we are also doing ourselves a great favor. Sure problems brought about by drastic changes in our environment, like droughts and torrential rains, are like big insurmountable walls lined up on our path. But if everyone will think of doing that one giant leap of faith to turn green, then its effects will multiply a thousand fold until we can finally see visible and tangible results.
Improvements in our environment may take years and years before they manifest, but isn’t it good to know that we are treading the right path to saving it or making it better and contributing to the solution instead of aggravating the problems? There are simple things you can do at home that can help our planet to be better. Little things like segregating your trash and properly disposing them is very elementary and something that even little children can follow. Opting for green cleaning products is also another way to get rid of harmful chemicals in your home and preventing them from infiltrating our sewage and waterways.
We are the Lord’s shepherd in this planet, don’t you think it is about time we do what we are created to do?
